Notion 3.0 introduces powerful upgrades you can apply immediately to transform how you work. This major update delivers enhanced collaboration through safer sharing with granular permissions, significantly speeds up your workflow with sophisticated AI assistance for content creation and formula building, and introduces exciting upcoming features that expand how you plan, visualize, and automate your work. The updates focus on both improving existing functionality and introducing entirely new capabilities that address common pain points for teams and individuals alike.
Granular database permissions
Granular permissions let people like contractors see and edit only what’s relevant. Create a linked view for the shared page, then set rules in your source database such as “Assignee can edit” and “Creator can edit.” This keeps your source database private while enabling focused collaboration. A current limitation is that property-level restrictions aren’t available, so someone could change the assignee and make an item disappear from their view. For external shares, consider making the permission view only.

Notion Agent: Your Personal Assistant
Open the Agent, set a tone, add instructions, and reference pages like brand guidelines. Ask it to create new projects, apply your own templates, and file outputs to specific databases. You can also undo actions the Agent performs, which makes experimentation low risk. Notion Agent is a big update because it can finally allow you to have AI work directly inside your workspace.

AI Formulas that write and explain
Add a Formula property and ask AI to write, fix, or explain logic. For example, tag overdue tasks, show status when not overdue, and style “Done” items bold and green. This speeds up your database creation and makes it easier to see important information and calculations.

AI connectors expand your context
Connect Notion Mail and other sources so AI can summarize, search, and compile reports with more context than your workspace alone. This is especially helpful for weekly digests and reports across your different tools.

Coming soon: teams of custom agents and a Map view
Teams of agents can operate in roles, run on triggers, and execute on cycles like weekly reports or Slack-based alerts. A new Map view will let you store places and visualize them, which is perfect for travel planners or restaurant lists.
