7 NEW Features in the Notion 3.4 Update | Full Tutorial & Guide

Notion’s 3.4 update is a strong mix of practical organization features and new AI options. In this walkthrough, you’ll see what’s new, what it is best for, and how to start using each feature right away.

Update 1: Tabs inside a page

Tabs are a new block type that lets you organize content inside a single page without relying on long scrolling or complicated column layouts.

You can create tabs for different sections! Because each tab can hold almost anything, this is especially helpful for database page templates or organizing long pages.

Update 2: Archive (instead of delete)

Archive gives you a middle option between keeping a page active and deleting it forever.

Here’s what to know:

  • You can archive a page from the six-dot block menu or the top three-dot menu.
  • Archived pages show who archived them and when.
  • In databases, archived pages disappear from your current views, which keeps your workspace cleaner.
  • Archived pages can still show up in search, so they are not “gone,” just out of the way.

Update 3: Dashboard view (Business and Enterprise)

Notion’s new dashboard view is designed to show multiple data sources in one place, especially when you want to combine charts and database views.

What makes this powerful is global filtering. You can apply one filter across multiple widgets so your dashboard stays consistent.

Update 4: The experimental sidebar

Notion is testing a new sidebar experience that adds tabs at the top for important areas like:

  • Notion AI chats and agents
  • Meetings
  • Inbox

If you use Notion AI and meetings a lot, it is worth turning on and testing. If you prefer the classic layout, you can simply toggle it off.

Update 5: Notion AI updates (skills, image generation, and more)

This update includes several AI improvements, but two stand out.

First, Notion is introducing custom instructions for meeting notes (similar to agent instructions). This is still rolling out, so you may not see it yet. Second, you can now create custom AI skills. This is one of the most practical AI upgrades because it turns a repeated prompt into a reusable tool.

Enterprise users also have new AI connector options, including Box and Salesforce.

Notion AI also now supports generating images! If you create a lot of pages in Notion, the image generator is especially handy for fast cover images.

Update 6: Agent updates (lower-cost model + private Slack)

Custom agents now have a new model option designed to use fewer credits. You can choose the best model based on speed, intelligence, and cost. Notion also added support for interacting inside private Slack channels for custom agents, which was a big limitation for many teams.

Update 7: Presentation mode

Presentation mode turns a Notion page into slides using dividers as slide boundaries.

This is especially useful when you want a quick way to present information. You can still use blocks like headings and callouts. Notion will format them automatically, so it is not a full design tool, but it is fast and flexible.

Final thoughts

Notion 3.4 is one of those updates where the “small” changes add up to a much better day-to-day experience. Tabs and Archive alone can make your workspace feel dramatically cleaner, and AI skills can save time if you do the same kind of writing and organizing work over and over.
