NEW Notion Update 3.6 Release & More! | Notion Mail Shut Down, iOS app, external agents

Notion has been rolling out a series of significant updates since the 3.6 release, and there is a lot to unpack. Whether you are a casual user or someone who relies on Notion for your entire workflow, these updates bring meaningful changes that expand what you can do inside your workspace. In this article, I will walk you through each update and how you can start using it.

External Agents: Claude and Cursor

One of the biggest additions is the ability to use external agents like Claude and Cursor directly within Notion. These agents use Notion credits just like your custom agents, but there is a key difference: they can write code, analyze data, create presentations, and even make file changes.

If you'd like the external agent to make file changes you can connect it to your GitHub account. In your Notion settings, navigate to the advanced section and you will see the GitHub connection option. Once connected, you can move tasks to "ready for agent" and the agent will start working on them, writing code, creating features, and making changes directly in your repository.

Notion Calendar Now Supports Outlook

For anyone who uses Microsoft products, this update is a welcome addition. Notion Calendar now lets you connect your Outlook calendar alongside your existing Google Calendar. Simply go to your Notion Calendar settings, click "Add Calendar Account," and you will see the option to connect Outlook.

Your Notion agent can now also interact with your Outlook calendar and emails. In your Notion settings under Connections, you will find Outlook listed as an AI connector. You can add connected emails and calendars, making it much easier to manage your schedule and communications without leaving Notion.

AI Meeting Note Taker Improvements

The AI meeting note taker has received a notable upgrade in speaker-by-speaker recognition. When recording a meeting, Notion can now identify who is speaking and label their contributions accordingly. If a participant is not in your workspace, their contributions are labeled as "others," but the separation between speakers is much clearer than before.

You can also now upload an audio file to generate meeting notes. This is a great way to keep everything centralized in your Notion workspace.

The New HTML Block Type

Notion now supports an HTML block type that lets you embed interactive content directly in your pages. By typing /html in a new page, you can generate slides, dashboards, reports, clocks, and even games.

You do not need Notion AI to use this feature. You can generate an HTML file externally and embed it. This opens up a wide range of possibilities for creating interactive widgets and visual reports that live inside your Notion workspace.

New Native Connections in Custom Agents

Custom agents now have additional native connections available. When you go to your custom agent settings and click "Add Connection," you will see new options like Miro and Mercury that were not available before. These integrations make it easier to connect your favorite tools directly through the custom agent interface.

More AI Models to Choose From

Notion has expanded the selection of AI models available in the AI chat. If you click where it says "Auto" in your AI chat, you will see a list of models you can pick from. These are updated frequently, so it is worth checking back periodically to try the latest options.

Notion Mail Is Shutting Down

Notion Mail is going to be shutting down on September 22, 2026. If you rely on auto labeling, you can set up a custom agent to apply similar labeling going forward. I’ll be exploring some alternatives in the upcoming weeks, and will share it if I find something useful!

The New Notion Agents iOS App

Notion has launched a dedicated iOS app called Notion Agents. This app lets you chat with your Notion AI and access all your custom agents in one place, without opening the full Notion app. You can take voice notes, ask questions in chat, or dictate quick notes that get stored directly in your Notion databases. It is a convenient way to interact with your AI on the go without cluttering your main Notion workspace.

Final Thoughts & Video Guide

These updates represent a significant expansion of Notion's capabilities, from external agents that can write code, to better calendar integration, to interactive HTML blocks. If you have not explored these features yet, now is a great time to dive in and see how they can improve your workflow.
