Notion's NEW Map View Database | Full Tutorial & Guide
Share

Notion’s new Map View lets you visualize any database that includes a place property as interactive pins on a map. Each pin is a normal Notion page, which means you can keep using your existing workflows while gaining a map view. This is perfect for travel planners as well as restaurant trackers!
Add a Place Property
To use Map View you need to have a place property. The place property can also be used without a map view and you can use it to easily copy addresses or access an address using google maps.
Once you have a place property, you can add new locations by pressing the “New” button or add pin to your map view.

Create a Map View for an existing Database
Open your database, add a place property, then add a new view and select Map. Choose the map icon and pick which place property the view should use. If the map view doesn’t show anything be sure to paste or search their addresses to populate the place property so it shows up in the map view.

Configure key settings
Map View has a simple set of options, you can choose which place property to show, how pages open when a pin is clicked, the load limit, and the map height. Set height to Small, Medium, Large, or Extra Large depending on how much screen space you want.

Tips for better maps
Use conditional color based on a select or status such as Type so each category has its own pin color. Add cover images to your pages so hover previews are more visual and informative.

Important limitations
When you add a location by searching its name, copying that field usually copies only the place name, not the full address. If you need the full address text, type it manually. Map View also has a load limit of about 100 pins visible at once; use filters to keep the map under that threshold when working with large datasets.
